Sarah English is a 2009 graduate of the Environmental Studies program at the University of Waterloo, where she studied environmental planning and urban design. She is currently developing a campus sustainability assessment and action plan. Sarah was instrumental in having Wilfrid Laurier University sign on as an observing organization with a carbon emission-reduction institute, Sustainable Waterloo.

At UW, Sarah was a board member on the University of Waterloo Sustainability Project and founded Active & Community Transportation, a student group that promoted a healthy, active, and sustainable transportation lifestyle. She developed accessability maps that illustrated trip lengths for students to walk or bike to areas around the Waterloo Region. She was also a longtime member of the Sustainable Technology Education Project, a renewable energy group on campus, through which she introduced earthships to many students on campus. Among many of her accomplishments, Sarah led an accredited student delegation to attend the COP-15, the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
